Coup d’Tot

Q: What do you call it when a Man-Baby takes over the American government?

A: Coup d’Tot.

―Michael R. Burch aka “The Loyal Opposition”

After lunch, Committee really picked up. And this time they actually had a discussion whose primary refrain was something other than ‘Trump is bad.’

For starters, Ivanka Trump stated that Nancy Pelosi needed to be looked into for her involvement with a Russian. Hoyer confirmed this by releasing her bank record which stated that she paid off a Russian gang to interfere with the 2016 elections. What is absurd in this situation is the fact that a biased investigation based on simply theories is being launched into President Trump, while we have concrete proof of Democrat involvement with the Russians. It is important to remember that Mr. Hoyer, a Democrat, fulfilled his national duty by reporting this incident to the American public, proving that he is in fact a true patriot.

The Mueller probe’s bias is evident in the leak of confidential information to the Democrat party by Robert Mueller himself. This proves that the investigator is biased. Additionally, Bernie Sanders has also been suspected of colluding with him. Hence it is clear that this probe is another ploy by the Democrats as propaganda, since it consists of baseless accusations.

The Press reporters were stunned to watch President Trump’s patriotism being questioned, given that Nancy Pelosi was proved to be the true traitor. The Democrat party is divided amongst themselves as they seem to be incapable of  deciding on whether they want to stop the probe, and impeach the President for no other offence than winning the elections.

A member of the parliament committed treason of the highest order and it is visible that the Democrat party is not at its highest peak. Therefore, they should stop grasping at loose threads to try and bring down the Republicans.

Steny Hoyer is a man that strictly follows the law, which makes him a reliable source.  Unlike his fellow delegates, he managed to realise that the impeachment of the President on no credible grounds would tarnish the reputation of this country. This is a simple fact that the Democrats ignore time and again, as they keep fuelling their delusional witch hunt. The investigation against President Trump is unreliable because of the biased nature of the investigator. Hence, it is difficult to consider the information that comes out of this probe to be legitimate.

In conclusion, instead of starting a witch hunt against President Trump, we should focus on the answers the nation needs from Nancy Pelosi for her actions. The only upside for the Democrat party is the fact that they replaced Ms. Nancy Pelosi with Mr. Bernie Sanders, a small but still important improvement. President Trump is not only innocent but also continuing in his work to restore our nation to its former glory.

Que tan perfecto, por fin alguien esta escribiendo algo corto, gracias a dios.

Bye-bye Bangladesh!

It is more than safe to say that tensions in the latter half of the security council have done more than merely escalate. In only a few hours, the committee managed to almost start the Third World War when Bangladesh invaded Pakistan and have even thrown out a member of The United Nations.

Bangladesh, being an ally of India, has chosen to severely reprimand Pakistan, skipping imposing sanctions or collective security and jumping directly to utilizing physical force. They believe that Pakistan have been irresponsible in handling the issue of the multiple terrorist groups that populate their country, stating that Pakistan were fostering terrorists and are not willing to do anything about it. This, of course, not being true as Pakistan are currently are making efforts to eradicate these previously mentioned terrorist groups. Bangladesh has wrongly assumed that Pakistan has put India in danger and have therefore taken drastic steps in order to aid their ally.

The result of Bangladesh waging war on Pakistan was uproar. This led to fierce and fast paced debate causing India to violate their foreign policy by stating that they would support Bangladesh in their endeavours. This, of course, was a breach of the non-alignment movement that was first adopted by India in 1947. The breach of their foreign policy was highlighted by China during committee, and India appeared sufficiently devastated with their error.

Pakistan took a positive stand on the issue, attempting to resolve the conflict via negotiations and peaceful talks instead of utilizing the harsh methods that countries like Bangladesh had adopted. Surprisingly enough, this full blown war and intense conflict resulted in no new points or motions. For some reason, delegates needed to be pushed by the chairs to pull committee out of stagnation. This could be credited to shock or horror.

The events that followed this debate elucidated the shock previously mentioned to no extent. Committee surmised for the day with both a new update as well as a country being removed from the United nations. Quick and hard hitting debate succeeded the new advancements that were made in committee, finally leading up to a formal vote to eradicate Bangladesh from the United Nations. The result of the vote was a resounding yes. The decision made by the committee was enthusiastically celebrated, being greeted by all round applause and whooping. The committee concluded with a new update mentioning the increase in radical terrorist groups arising at the borders in Kashmir.

How will the Security Council deal with this new and pressing issue and how will they adapt to losing Bangladesh as a member of the United Nations?

A Committee That Will Go Down In History

After a 20 minute unmoderated caucus with no clear results, the head chair of the HSC stated that “the efficiency of this committee is riDicULouS”, banging his gavel repeatedly on the table to get the attention of the delegates. The delegates of the UK and Iran were excused from committee to complete writing a directive to initiate an invade into Iraq. After a long silence in which no points or motions were raised, the chair got a bluetooth call with an update that “Saddam Hussain was chilling on the beach with American playboys”, while all the countries in the committee sat quietly, unwilling to speak about the matter at hand. Only motion on the floor was raised by Qatar to discuss the specifics of this update, which was immediately shot down by the chairs as well as questions from the US as to where the playboy models originated from. Another question regarding where Saddam Hussain was “holidaying” was followed by a discussion as to whether or not Baghdad was the capital of Iraq.

After the chairs attempted to bribe delegates with mentos to come up with good motions, the delegates started discussing ways to attack Iraq to prevent it from attacking Kuwait any further. The delegate of Iraq was asked to leave committee for the duration of this moderated caucus and after attempting to record the happenings of committee on his phone, the device was briefly confiscated. During this discussion, many delegates such as the delegate of Israel seemed to suddenly either become deaf or fall asleep, unaware of the matters being discussed. Once Kuwait’s policies are questioned by Syria and multiple other countries stated that they also agreed that Iraq should be attacked and stopped. How exactly this would be done, they were all unclear of. They also all seemed to agree on the fact that Iraq should have economic sanctions.

The delegate of Iraq responded to the multiple statements regarding the fact that their country was to be surrounded and attacked with the utmost confidence. “It’s simple math,” he said, when comparing the number of foreign forces to the number awaiting them in the Iraqi capital.

Another update was then introduced stating that Saddam Hussain had been assassinated and his son had taken his place. This was followed by an emphatic speech given Uday Hussain, where he conveyed that he thought his father was “mild”. France, meanwhile, was quite busy in committee. They exploited the naval blockade and traded in military with Iraq and, also had a big part to play in the assassination of Saddam Hussain. On the other hand, they held their placard upside down, were confused when told by the chair that their head of state was, in fact, alive and then swore while turning it the right side up.

The royal family was kidnapped and the US and UK, instead of helping them and giving in to the demand that their troops leave, went ahead with their invasion into Iraq. This move was particularly controversial as many delegates no longer knew who to trust. The delegates of Venezuela, in particular, stated many times, “We’re just confused”. However, Egypt supported the actions of the US and the UK and got numerous bangs of agreement from the delegates of the US and UK for saying, “If we give in to Iraq today, they will only demand more tomorrow.” France then took center stage and stated that they are the only hope and are the only ones who can take any action as they are the ones who managed to assassinate Saddam Hussain. Iraq believed the directive was  useless and since the US and UK could not protect the royal family, they couldn’t do anything. They had also called out Kuwait for not writing or debating any of the paperwork that was being discussed in committee as the entire crisis was pertaining to their country.

As committee began to come to a close, the delegate of Iran, once more, motioned for entertainment and was met with the response, “only if you swim on the desk” As the delegate refused to do so, even though the whole committee was thumping their tables in agreement, the chair reluctantly resorted to reading out many suggestions on how to assassinate Saddam Hussain, many that included the involvement of the playboy models.

History has its eyes on you

Invasion may be a heavily impactful and problematic event in real life, but at UNiS 2019, the delegates of the HSC have used it as a comical aid to yell at each other.

Committee began today with the usual General Speaker’s List. Delegates stood up and droned about their policies and stances; not a very promising start to discussion of a riveting issue. The delegate of the United Kingdom even seemed to fall asleep in the middle of his speech, faltering for a second too long before continuing. However, the delegate of Iraq brought a spark of excitement to the floor – standing up, he made his way over to the centre of the room and launched into a dramatic monologue, accompanied by animated hand waving and facial expressions. He talked of trying to prevent war, for the good of the Gulf countries, and the repercussions of slant drilling for oil, but most of his words fell upon deaf ears as all the delegates paid attention mainly to his performance.  Kuwait criticized Iraq for making false accusations, and for not repaying such large loans, backed by France, the USA and the UK amongst others. Similarly, Iraq retaliated by calling war inevitable and continuing the use of exaggerated hand actions, as Qatar and the USSR in particular, expressed their support for Iraq.

Regarding loans, Iran suggested Iraq repay the 9 billion Kuwait loaned them before the Iran-Iraq war, in addition to the 40 billion they already owe. Soon enough, France was up, and they definitely got everyone’s attention as the delegates walked to the centre of the room, pointed at Iraq and accused the delegate of climbing up to his ego and jumping down to his IQ, causing the room to erupt with approving bangs on tables.

Dev Joshi seemed to be one of the few people in committee thoroughly enjoying himself as he threw chits from one delegate to another. . As the chair scratched his back with his gavel, delegates discovered that Saddam Hussain had the Chair’s personal phone number and snapchat streak, and had called him to tell him personally that Iraq had invaded Kuwait. As the lights dimmed and delegates murmured excitedly, a video recording of Hussain was projected on the board. This man looked alarmingly like Dev Joshi, but the update was taken seriously nonetheless.

Various delegations voiced their views on the issue. Syria agreed to aid Kuwait by sending troops to their country, and Iran passionately encouraged the USA to initiate the Carter Doctrine and step in to help. France’s delegates were overly enthusiastic to speak about the matter and showed the committee a piece of paper which supposedly had coordinates that they were eager to attack if the situation required it, and stated that Iraq was ‘a very bad place’. The delegate of the soviet union put forth one emphatic sentence about how immediate action had to be taken. Against who or what, no one was very sure. All in all, most countries agreed on the fact that Westen countries such as the USA needed to aid Kuwait.

The delegates had very differing opinions of the temperature of their room, and so, after a formal voting session came to the consensus to raise the temperature by 1.5 degrees celsius. When

a delegate of France asked for the AC temperature to be lowered, he was told that he was free to unbutton his shirt. While  people seem very well-informed of the AC temperature, they seem completely clueless when it comes to where troops are stationed in Kuwait and basic procedure. The delegate of Iran then stated that the solution for the invasion was to “surround Iraq and STRIKE”. However, when asked to elaborate on what he meant by “strike”, the delegate failed to properly elaborate.

The chairs seem to be very careful about giving out mentos as it had been a while since one had been unceremoniously chucked at an unsuspecting delegate. However, delegates and chairs are still kept amused by the delegate of US wearing his extremely formal sneakers as he raised his placard upside down and asked the chairs what the topic of the ongoing moderated caucus was. Once the delegate of the US finally found out the matter he was supposed to address, he stated that he would recommend immediate action against Iraq. The mentos famine comes to an end as the delegate of Saudi Arabia states that he will provide land for the attack against Kuwait and lunges to catch the mentos thrown at him by a head chair that has obviously not practiced his throwing. Venezuela then states that they will economically aid Kuwait and the US, but do not have a strong enough army to help the military attack on Kuwait.

The head chair then gets a phone call that Iraq has carpet bombed the Kuwaiti oil fields to establish its power and authority. Kuwait can no longer produce oil for anyone, even itself and 82 civilians were killed. Delegates from Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Syria  react by setting up refugee camps.Kuwait says, “Iraq has disrespected the global economy and the UN… they ruined the main export of the Middle East… violent action should be taken.” However, the delegate of Kuwait was also caught saying ‘no regard for human life as the carpet bombed area is inhabitable’. Delegate of Kuwait, the word you are looking for is “UNinhabitable.” After this, a question/answer session with Iraq commenced and Iraq denied the claim that he had stated he was looking out for the Gulf countries.

Chairs start raising their voices at delegates who seem to be a bit preoccupied with the environmental and humanitarian aspect of the issue. UK questions Iraq as to why they want to continue this aggressive stance when almost the whole world seems to be against it. Iraq blames economic warfare but the UK retaliates by suggesting it was because of all the loans taken by Iraq that they were unable to pay back. A moderated caucus is then held to discuss incentivising Iraq to leave Kuwait. Possible options are now economic sanctions and military actions. Qatar proposes to setting a deadline for Iraq to adhere to. The US, on the other hand, wants to take military action while Iran wants to give Iraq another chance. France, meanwhile, walks up to Iraq and says, ‘I’m asking you nicely to leave’. He continues to say, ’I won’t buy oil from you, will impose trade sanctions because I don’t care about you’ He was then cut off and told to talk sense and not just yell.

Death in the Clouds…

… 44 Indian Central Reserve Police Officers. 3 Pakistani civilians. 1 suicide bomber. Several heartbroken families. Is all this bloodshed a battle for peace, or a display of suppressed hatred?

This year, the Security Council began with a “BANG!”. Anshul dropping his bottle on to the hard, wooden floor. This outward expression of excitement starkly contrasted by the dull and monotonous general speakers list that then followed. The topic of committee being the recent Pulwama attacks that took place in Kashmir.

On the 14th of February, 2019, a vehicle full of explosives entered the Jammu-Srinagar highway. It passed a bus full of CRPF officers, and exploded. The bus erupted, killing every single officer inside it. The bus behind it was also impacted. 39 officers from the first bus were killed, along with one from the second bus. In retaliation, India conducted air strikes on a large Jaish-E-Muhammad terrorist training camp. This is the jihadist terrorist organization that took responsibility for the attack, releasing a video of the suicide bomber as well.

The delegate of The People’s Republic of China introduced the death toll in both Pakistan and India, emphasizing that innocents in Pakistan were killed. This included 3 innocent Pakistani citizens who were murdered by the Indian air force. The question then arose,  Is India facing absolutely no consequences for their air force, that murdered 3 civilians because they were “protecting” themselves?

This heated topic regarding the casualties on both sides , sparked debate with India, Pakistan and all their allies. The CRPF officers in India were murdered by a bomber that was located in Pakistan, but it was not affiliated with the Pakistani government. Whereas, the Indian Air Force violated Pakistan’s airspace and also killed 3 individuals. As a response to the three killings, The United Kingdom, China and the United States all switched from reprimanding Pakistan and wanting to impose sanctions on them to wanting to impose sanctions on India instead. In contrast to this, countries like Japan, Armenia and India itself all stated that the killings were a form of self defence. These countries responded to the previous allegations of India being a “Murderer” by stating that it was Pakistan that first killed 40 CPRF officers. Their point was then quickly refuted as it was not the Pakistani government who killed the 40 CPRF officers in the Pulwama attacks, but instead a radical terrorist group that happened to be from Pakistan.

USA, the largest country present was represented by the smallest guy in the room. A “certain amount of gunfire” was reported at the Indo- Pak border in Kashmir. Non State Actors were eventually held responsible for the crossfire while the Pakistani Military has denied any part in the action. The militants were armed with modern, technologically advanced weapons which are known to be supplied by the USA. Sources are not sure whether the Government of Pakistan is involved in the potentially tragic cross- border fire or the supply of arms and ammunition. However, no casualties have been reported on either side of the border as of now.

Although committee did not start with a bang, it certainly ended with one, the sound of the hollow gunshot that killed the India pilot, Abhinandan Vardhaman. The news released just before committee broke for lunch ,sparking uproar throughout the committee. Now we have to wait and see. How will the countries deal with this new update, how will people react and what steps will the countries take to avert full out war?

The Mueller Probe; The USA’s Trump Card

Q: What is Donald Trump’s favourite beverage?
A: Mueller Lite, served by his personal Barr-tender.
―Michael R. Burch aka “The Loyal Opposition”

What separates President Trump from other politicians is his ability to actually deliver on his promises. As Ivanka Trump states, he is the most successful president of the 21st century. He has done this by the creation of 4 million new jobs, the increase of economic growth by 4.2%, and the reduction of unemployment rates which are now reaching a 49 year low. The problem arose when the Democrats threatened to impeach the President with baseless accusations of his colluding with the Russians. An irrational accusation that has little factual basis and is, in fact, a witch hunt started by the Democrats to distract the American people from his faithful service to our country.

As Mike Pence says, President Trump won the election fairly and on his own merit. The information provided by James Comey was unverified and it is the President’s responsibility to make sure that official information is genuine. Hence, firing the director of the Federal Bureau of Investigations was completely justified, as accusations without proof become propaganda, and therefore ending those to maintain the security of one’s country is not an unreasonable act. The Mueller investigation itself is based on theories and hence is completely invalid, a waste of resources and should be put to an end. The investigation being released to the public would not be beneficial at all since the public would find all kinds of ways to twist and turn the information to mean something that is entirely misleading.

When the question of impeachment rises, the Democrats continue to make baseless accusations. Two hours of non-stop ‘debate’ within the democrat can be summarized in one sentence, ‘Trump is bad.’ That is the sole basis of the Democrat argument; they detest Donald Trump. Furthermore, their incompetence is reflected in the question, ‘would you please repeat the question’, which was repeated numerous times. Donald Trump is a successful businessman who simply gets things done; without the hassle of constructing an image. His honesty is what appeals to the masses, and his impeachment is a way for the Democrats to blame the President for their personal losses. It’s unfortunate that this strategy barely works on the democrats themselves. With only half of the Democrats in favour of impeachment, they do not seem to have much luck convincing the intelligent American people of arbitrary theories. William Barr correctly states that in the meeting with Mr Muller there was no evidence that proved Trump to be in any collusion with Russia, because there is, of course, none.

Trump’s work is also often put under the radar, he is disregarded by the Democrats since they choose to only view the work that is considered to be negative and unhelpful towards the American Government. If impeachment is the only answer, how does that reflect on the government’s reputation? Impeachment might not be the only answer. Even now, only some of the Democrats are for the impeachment of our President. The Democrats only have substantial evidence and must support their claims instead of carelessly making statements that will only lead them to their own losses.

Iraq Won’t Ku-Wait For It

Both the tension and the stakes are high as Iraq accuses Kuwait of stealing oil through slant-drilling into reserves present in the Rumaila oil field. There appears to be an invasion on the horizon as Iraq makes demands and threatens military action. This seems to be the climax of the underlying animosity between the two nations.

This animosity was first apparent in 1961 when Kuwait became independent. Prior to this, the country existed, up to World War I, as a “Qadha,” a district within the Basra Province. It was an integral part of Iraq under the administrative rule of the Ottoman Empire. The Iraqi government has since been trying to claim Kuwait as their own by claiming historic rights to the country. A small crisis emerged, wherein the Iraqi government threatened to invade Kuwait, but it was averted due to plans by the Arab League to form an international Arab force against Iraqi actions towards Kuwait alongside British military intervention.

However, it is interesting to note, Iraq is in financial debt to Kuwait. Kuwait openly admitted its support of Iraq during the Iran-Iraq war and even loaned the country large sums of money — though, due to Iraq’s impoverishment post the war, the country has not been able to repay the entire debt owed.

It is likely due to this, funnily enough, that Iraq is angered about oil prices. Kuwait is producing more oil than ever and allowing the prices to drop rapidly. It is estimated that for every dollar the price of oil reduces by, Iraq loses a billion dollars. Iraq has claimed that Kuwait is violating their treaty by producing large quantities of oil, but Kuwait does not show any signs of stopping.

In May, the president of Iraq, Saddam Hussein publicly stated that the overproduction of oil by Kuwait (thus lowering the worldwide prices) was a form of economic warfare against Iraq. He appears greatly angered by this and military threat seems to be looming over Kuwait.

The US, however, has not tried to stop Iraq from following this path at any given point in time. Iraq seems to be taking this as a green light to go ahead with what they are planning.

Kuwait, with Iraqi troops close to its borders, does not seem to be making any counterattack. It is possible that they are trying to avoid the conflict entirely, as Iraq has an extremely strong army that will be able to overpower Kuwait’s minuscule defensive forces rather quickly. However, conflict seems imminent with Iraq going on the offensive.

Assuming we’re all fortunate enough, Iraq will be forced to retreat and revoke their accusation, however unlikely that possibility may seem. Until then, we’re all in the dark.

Committee Report:Indo-Pak Conflict

The history of this committee can be traced back 70 years, when on August 15th, 1947, the British ended their 190 year rule over the Indian Subcontinent. This decision came in a hurry, as the control which the British had over this empire weakened drastically after World War 2. This hasty settlement led to the disorderly drawing of the border separating the two newly formed nations, India and Pakistan. It is estimated that the partition displaced around 10 to 12 million people along religious lines, creating chaotic refugee crises in both countries. This partition was of a particularly violent nature, with lives lost adding to approximately 2 million. An atmosphere of hostility and suspicion was created due to this event, permanently damaging relations between the newly formed countries. There have been several other major conflicts between the two countries- these are briefly described below.

Indo-Pakistani War of 1947
Also called the First Kashmir War, this occurred when tribal Islamic forces, with the help of the army of Pakistan, attacked and occupied parts of the princely state of Jammu and Kashmir. This forced the Maharaja of Jammu and Kashmir to sign an Instrument of Accession of the princely state to India to receive military aid. The UN Security Council passed resolution 47 on the 22nd of April, 1948, forming what is known as the Line of Control. India had control of about 2/3 of the state (Jammu, Ladakh, Kashmir Valley), whereas Pakistan gained control of the remaining part of the state (Azad Kashmir, Gilgit Baltistan).

Indo-Pakistani War of 1965
This conflict began after Pakistan launched Operation Gibraltar, which was designed to infiltrate forces into Jammu and Kashmir. India retaliated by launching a full scale attack on Pakistan. This subsequently led to the largest engagement of armoured vehicles, the largest tank battle since World War 2 and the largest moment of troops in Jammu and Kashmir since the partition of 1947. The United Nations declared a ceasefire following diplomatic intervention by the United States and the Soviet Union. Representatives of India and Pakistan met in the Soviet controlled Tashkent. A ceasefire was then declared.

Indo-Pakistani War of 1971
A revolution was taking place in East Pakistan owing to Bengali Nationalists. Pakistan launched Operation Searchlight wherein threats to national security were eliminated. This caused around 10 million people taking refuge in the north eastern states of India. This proved to be costly for India, with the only other option to declare war on West Pakistan. West Pakistan took India by surprise, and launched preemptive strikes across the border. India heavily retaliated and gained around 10,015 square kilometres of Pakistani land. 90,000 Pakistani military troops and civilians surrendered to the Indian Armed Forces, this being the highest number of prisoners of war since World War 2. The Pakistani land gained by India was gifted back to Pakistan in the Shimla Agreement of 1972 as a gesture of goodwill. The war resulted in the formation of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh.

Indo-Pakistani War of 1999
Commonly known as the Kargil War, this war took place when Pakistani troops infiltrated across the Line of Control, occupying territory mostly in the Kargil District. India retaliated both militarily and diplomatically, forcing the international community to pressurise the already unstable Pakistan and its failing economy. Fearing isolation, the Pakistani forces withdrew from the remaining areas in India which I had under control. Later, Nawaz Sharif claimed that Pakistan had badly lost the war, with casualties of around 4,000. A ceasefire was declared in late July, after around 7 months of action.
Recently, there have been a number of confrontations between the military of both countries. These will play significant role in the progress of this committee. These are explained below.

The Uri Attacks-2016
On 18th September, 2016, 4 militants ambushed an Indian Army Brigade near the Line of Control, in the small town of Uri. 17 grenades were thrown by the militants, killing 17 soldiers on the spot. A 6 hour gun fight ensued, during which all 4 of the militants were killed. 19-30 soldiers were injured, with 2 of them succumbing to injuries. Following the attacks, both the Indian and Pakistani soldiers placed on the Line of Control were on high alert. The Jaish-e-Mohammad took responsibility for the attack, and the Government of India condemned it. 11 days later, on the 28th of September, 2016, the Indian Army announced that Surgical Strikes had been launched on the same day, and were successful in eliminating militant launch pads across the line of control, inflicting severe casualties along the way. Pakistani sources claimed that the incident was only a slight altercation on the border, ensuing the death of only 2 Pakistani soldiers. However, the Indian Army released footage of the attacks to prove otherwise.

Pulwama Attacks-2019
On 14th February, 2019, a convoy of Central Reserve Police Force personnel was attacked by a suicide bomber in a vehicle, killing 40 people. Just like the Uri Attacks, the Pulwama Attacks were also organised by the Jaish-e-Mohammad. India condemned the attacks, and blamed Pakistan for aiding such terrorist groups. On the 26th of February, 2019, 12 Mirage 2000 jets crossed the line of control and flew into Pakistani airspace, killing 300-350 militants in their training camps. On the 26th of February, 2019, the Pakistan Air Force conducted an air strike on Jammu and Kashmir, in lieu of the air strikes conducted by the Indian Air Force the day before. Both India and Pakistan agree that there were no casualties due to the air strike. However, a dogfight took place, in which an Indian Mig-21, with Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman on board, got shot down over Pakistani airspace and captured by the Pakistan Army. After a lot of political pressure, Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman got released back to India on the 1st of March, 2019.

FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE

‘Collusion’. A word which many of us have never even heard of. A collusion, a secret agreement for an illegal purpose. It is something so outrageous, so bizarre, so unthinkable, that most of us couldn’t even imagine someone doing such a thing, let alone the most powerful man in the United States. Donald J Trump.

Let’s backtrack a little. On the 8th of November, 2016, Donald Trump was elected to power. For months before this, him and every other candidate had been campaigning, making false promises, and being much too passionate in front of screaming audiences. But tucked away, where no one could see it, Trump seemed to have other things up his sleeve. Ones with a much greater impact than a catchy slogan.

Two months into His Royal Highness’ reign, US intelligence reported an increase in Russian interference in American politics. A year later, it was confirmed that our orange hero didn’t have it in him to take on the elections alone. He had allegedly taken the aid of Russians during the pre election period. Evidently, the ridiculously long red tie couldn’t keep him afloat on its own.

On 9th June 2016, a meeting lead by Russian lawyer Natalya Veselnitskaya, Donald Trump Jr, Paul Manafort, and Jared Kushner took place at the extremely chic Trump tower residence. When asked about it however, our knight in his shining red tie denied having any knowledge of the little get together, stating that it was ‘merely’ a meeting to gain condemnatory information about Clinton – as if that made it completely acceptable.

As a result of these suspicions, an investigation under special attorney Robert Mueller was authorised on 17th May, 2017, by Deputy Attorney General, Rod Rosenstein. Mueller formed a group of investigators, separate from the conventional chain of command, in order to gain unedited information on the alleged scandal.

Another suspicious activity which ties into the allegations against our supreme leader, was firing a senior member of the FBI. James Comey had been a part of American security for over 58 years. It comes as no surprise that when Comey began investigating the Russian interference, he was immediately asked to step down. It is widely believed that this maneuver is an obstruction of justice in the legal system. Unfortunately for the tragic hero, despite his efforts, the investigation still persists.

Within his jurisdiction, Mr Mueller is able to subpoena records, prosecute individuals, and not have to answer directly to the White House. He does however still report to the Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein.

Taking political aid from another country while the World is oblivious to it is an Obstruction of Justice that in extreme cases could result in impeachment. However, dragging the emperor of the free World away from his throne isn’t an easy task. In order to impeach, a simple majority of the 435 members of the House must be in favour. The decision is then put in the hands of the Senate where a trial takes place. In order for this decision to pass, two thirds of the members must agree. However, the Senate consists of 53 Republicans, 45 Democrats, and 2 non aligned members. Thus, the only way a two-thirds majority can be reached is in the unlikely circumstance that the party goes against their own leader. Going against their own chosen leader, would completely shatter the image of the GOP. Furthermore, Democrats would pounce on this little slip up and use it as leverage during the next elections.

Despite our Orange-misfit-in-the-Whitehouse’s ‘minor’ slip up, having won the election with a thumping majority, he has the faith and mandate of the people of the United States of America. In addition, the Mueller probe has not been released hitherto, and thus the claims and allegations against Trump is mere speculation based on very little hard evidence.
